Google Adds Blog Search

What is Blog Search?

Blog Search is Google search technology focused on blogs. Google is a strong believer in the self-publishing phenomenon represented by blogging, and we hope Blog Search will help our users to explore the blogging universe more effectively, and perhaps inspire many to join the revolution themselves. Whether you’re looking for Harry Potter reviews, political commentary, summer salad recipes or anything else, Blog Search enables you to find out what people are saying on any subject of your choice.

Your results include all blogs, not just those published through Blogger; our blog index is continually updated, so you’ll always get the most accurate and up-to-date results; and you can search not just for blogs written in English, but in French, Italian, German, Spanish, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese and other languages as well.

How do I find Blog Search?

There are a few different ways you can get to Blog Search:

It’s the same search in each place, no matter how you get to it. The Navbar, however, provides two buttons: one to search the blog you are currently viewing, and one to search all blogs.

What are Meta Tags?

Matthew

Technically a META tag is that little snippet of code typically located between the <HEAD> </HEAD> tags in an HTML file. More importantly however,

META tags are a commonly overlooked component of your website. In the early 90’s search engines used

META tags to rank the growing number of websites.  But most of us have probably had at least one experience of looking up key words in google or other search engines only to have a porn site or completely unrelated site pop up. It was this abuse of

Meta tags that led major search engines to employ more sophisticated methods of ranking pages. Thus the emphasis on

META tags has been greatly reduced and often forgotten. That being said it is important to remember that some search Engines still read

META tags in one way or another but there is now more confusion relating to them.

There are three main types of

META tags and each one is unique. They are as follows…

1.

Meta description: This is a 20-25 word description of your business in short plain language. Search engines that support this tag will use this information to publish on their search results page. If you have a website with very little text this tag is particularly important.

Example: <META NAME=”description” CONTENT=”Citrus fruit wholesaler.”>
Recommendation: Make your meta description as compelling as you can, as your description often is the difference between getting your listing clicked on in the search results or your competitor’s site.

2.

Meta Keywords:  These are your Keywords. They are used by some search engines to index your website in addition to words from the title and page body. These Keywords are also one of the principle

Meta tags, combined with your Descriptive tags they are used to properly index your site by search engines that support these tags.
Example: <META NAME=”keywords” CONTENT=”grapes, apples, lemons, limes”>
Recommendation:  Be careful! Make sure to only use keywords that are relevant to your site. Search engines can penalize or blacklist your site for abuse. Also remember by using this tag you are exposing your keywords to your competitors. Also,if your tags are good enough your competitors will probably copy  you.

3.

Meta Title: This is the simplest form of

META tags. This tag would normally have the same title as contained in the <TITLE></TITLE> tag.
Example: <META NAME=”Title” CONTENT=”Page Title Here”>
Recommendation: Be careful with how many words you use. I like to use 4-7 words.

Why isn’t my site bringing me…

June 2nd, 2007

Matthew

Why isn’t my site bringin me customers.

You are asking the wrong question. Lets start at step 1.

I can not tell you how many times I get a potential client asking me about this. Before you can get “something” out of your business web site, such as leads and sales, you have to put in the work to build a web site that will attract the visitors you want and encourage them to do what you want.

Ask yourself this, Does your business web site have a professional appearance?

Cookie-cutter site templates and/or home-made web sites stand out like sore thumbs, and do nothing to encourage anyone to do business with you. In fact, more often than not. They do the opposite to what you want. For example, if you are a landscape company and brag that you are the best company around but when a potential customer visits your website to view your portfolio and their first impression of your company is your $200 website your sisters brothers cousin built for you, it tells them that you do not care enough about your own company to present it in a professional way. It truly is very simple and always overlooked.

Unless you are an experienced Web site designer, you should hire one to design a business web site for your company. No matter how hard you try. You can not be an expert in landscape design and a professional web designer. Choose one career and be the best at that.

We highly recommend this small or no-cost strategy to other website owners. The traffic you get comes quickly and keeps delivering long-term. Using this strategy can also go a long way in establishing your expertise on your topic of choice. If you are not using article submissions, I suggest you try it. Visit an article directory and submit your best, current articles. Make sure the article is helpful and includes a small footer at the end, about the author. Here’s a short list of a few article directories:http://www.ezinearticles.com

Google 411

“Google Voice Local Search is Google’s experimental service to make local-business search accessible over the phone.

To try this service, just dial 1-800-GOOG-411 (1-800-466-4411) from any phone.

Using this service, you can:

-search for a local business by name or category. You can say “Giovanni’s Pizzeria” or just “pizza”.

- get connected to the business, free of charge.

-get the details by SMS if you’re using a mobile phone. Just say “text message”.

And it’s free. Google doesn’t charge you a thing for the call or for connecting you to the business. Regular phone charges may apply, based on your telephone service provider.

Note: Google Voice Local Search is still in its experimental stage. It may not be available at all times and may not work for all users. We’re fine-tuning the service to get better at recognizing your requests. It’s currently only available in English, in the US, for US business listings.”
